Sophia Hancock is a choreographer, dancer, and aspiring educator based in the New England area. Sophia has trained with various companies and institutions, including Southern New Hampshire Dance Theater/Youth Ballet, Burklyn Ballet, Regional Dance America, and is currently pursuing her B.A. in Dance with a double major in Computer Science at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. At Skidmore, she has worked with esteemed choreographers including Erika Pujič, Chia-Ying Kao, Jason Ohlberg, and Andrė Robles and has danced in new works choreographed by Adam Barruch, Moscelyne ParkeHarrison, Larry Keigwin and Robert Battle. Sophia has also performed as a guest artist for BalletX in their 2024 spring tour to Saratoga Performing Arts Center in collaboration with the Skidmore Dance Department.

As a creator, Sophia is driven by a deep curiosity for how bodies navigate, inhabit, and reshape space. Her most recent choreographed works include “Where Time Once Flowed” and “the space that isn’t,” which were created this past summer at Ballet 5:8 and Point Park’s choreography intensives. As a female artist and choreographer, she is deeply aware of the power dynamics and hierarchical traditions that have historically shaped the field of dance. This perspective informs her commitment to fostering shared creative agency, centering artists’ voices, and reimagining conventional approaches to dance-making. She strives to cultivate spaces where artists are valued as integral creative collaborators, allowing the process to be rooted in dialogue and mutual respect. Her goal is to continue developing work that is not only compelling in its movement but also transformative in creative culture.
